How long have you been natural?
I have been natural on an off since college and as of late for a consecutive total of 7.5 years.

What made you decide to go natural (or stay natural if you never relaxed your hair)?
My first time going natural was in 1996, around the time the Fugees were in their hay day lol. At that time it was the very beginning of the wealth of knowledge on how bad relaxers are for the hair. I jumped on board pretty quick,….before coming in to my own.

Big Chop, shot term transition or long term transition? Why?
I would have to say that being natural is a way of life for me and that its a permanent deal and part of who I am,..you know,…Chassity with the natural lol!

What is your hair care routine/regimen?
My current regime consists of a shoulder length natural (if pressed) that I mainly wash about once every 3 or even 4 weeks and begin with small two-strand twists that I gradually transition into a funky textured twistout/ fro about a week before wash day day (of course) and that’s when it looks the best but I get comments through out the 3/4 week period and love the different ways I can wear my hair. I can now do it myself since I got some length cut off (I’m a short haired girl at heart and my daughters hair takes the majority of my time being a fabulous natural that’s bra strap length , if she wore a bra…shes 8).

What are your top 5 ‘must-have’ hair care products/items? Why?
My new fav hair product since figuring out that my hair prefers oil based products in order to maintain defined twist outs instead of water based (every natural should get this figured out as it can save money in the long run from buying the wrong products fro your hair) is

1. Quemetbiologics Aethiopika Hydrate and Twist Butter
2. Going Natural’s leave in spray detangler/ leave in conditioner
3. Donna Marie’s shampoo
4. Going Natural’s Deep Conditioner Detox
5. Vegetable Glycerin: plain old natural stuff but I love it and use it from head to toe!

What are your favorite styles to wear?
I love to wear a big ole funky, full afrotabulous textured fro!
What is one thing you wish you knew about your hair or about your journey before going natural?
I wish I was confident enough to have kept my very first natural as a sophomore in college and not have waivered due to societal views, but that was my journey and I’m sticking to it 😉 . It has helped to create the woman I am today, STRONG, CONFIDENT AND UNWAVERING IN MY VIEWS OF MY BEAUTY.

What is the most important tip you’ve learned throughout your natural hair journey that you think every natural should know?
Its important to know which styles make you feel the most beautiful because you have to be sheilded with good thoughts about yourself before you walk out the door in order to counteract the possible negativity you may encounter when you leave the confounds of your own safe haven.

What are thoughts on the natural hair community/movement?
I think the movement is a beautiful thing and as women of color we have to make sure to KEEP it that way by continuing to know and learn thyself and stop trying to challenge, demean and cut down sisters that may be a different place, be it good or bad. Who are we to judge someone else’s journey?

Where can the Naturally Glam Fam find you online? What will they find on your site/blog/vlog?
I can be found at http://www.morthanlipstick.com. Women will find another safe place where the focus is primarily on them and any and everything dedicated to fitness and beauty because “It’s More Than Just Lipstick.”
