I was provided product for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own. We keep it real at Naturally Glam.
In the latest episode of our Defining My Curls series, we’ll be using the Luster’s You Be-Natural products for curl definition. Luster’s has been around for a long, long, LONG time in the black community as a hair care staple. While some turn their nose up to brands who are releasing products catering to the ever emerging demand of naturalistas, we are glad that brands are hearing the call and answering. As a resource for women with natural hair, Naturally Glam tries to keep up with all the new products that hit the market and share them with the Naturally Glam Fam – that’s YOU.
What They Say
You Be-Natural is the natural hair care line from black hair care leader Luster Products, Inc. The brand promotes incredibly healthy hair as the foundation for coils, curls, waves and more. The You Be-Natural products are derived from botanical ingredients, focusing on moisturizing and protecting the hair from the inside out, all while enhancing the inherent beauty and shine of natural hair. The full line includes everything you need for intensive therapy, easy day-to-day maintenance, and styling for natural hair worn curly or straight, as well as for those transitioning out of chemical relaxers. The You Be-Natural line is relatively new but brings with it the Luster Products, Inc. fifty-eight year history of making black hair beautiful.
What We Say
Several products came with the product bundle that we received, along with a booklet that explained each product and had a product recommendation chart. This chart offered guidance as to which products were formulated for the different curl pattern, and included a picture along with the curl pattern description. This would be very helpful for customers trying to determine which products in the line would work best for their curls. The products had a pleasant, clean scent. The ingredients included natural oils, but also synthetic ingredients as well. While we used the styling products for curl definition, they all have instructions for using the products for other styles, like twist-outs. Who doesn’t like options? We love them.
Here’s a brief demonstration of how we used the products from start to finish for a curl defining session. The Tangle Me Knot Shampoo was cleansing, yet gentle, and we were able to run our fingers through our hair without a problem. The Mayonnaise Conditioner coated the hair well and we were also able to detangle with it in our hair. However, as the product began to dry, it was a little more difficult to detangle, so we just added more water to keep the slip going. The Curl Shaper Custard recommended for our curl type was very moisturizing and defining, and provided some elongation but didn’t have a strong, or hard, hold. All and all, we would use the products again for curl definition as well as other set styles.
If you’d like to get your hands on these new You Be-Natural products, they are now being offered at select Sally Beauty Supply stores across the country. In support of this new partnership, here’s coupon good for $5 off of a purchase of two You Be-Natural products.
my hair is, beautiful, versatile, cute as well as me and my trip though with much trial / error has been sastifactorio see how wonderful to have my afro hair . Just like a rediscovery of my roots not only with my hair but also with my race
Will have to check these out. Always looking to try new things out on my hair.
The chart explaining the different hair texutres sounds like a great way to help people figure out what products to buy. I wold be clueless and definily in need of a chart if I had to buy my own hair prodiucts instead og going to the Salon.
I read the article then watched the video that wash and go was beautiful it is hard to find products that can define type 4 hair so well. Thank you for sharing this info.
I’m sorry I had to come back and tell you that when I do try wash and go’s I shampoo condition deep condition then apply bunches of gel it seems to take so much gel to get definition and then my hair is hard to set and when it does it’s hard and rough feeling I’m looking to find a new way.
I love this! My daughters hair is never right and I have been looking for something different to define those curls
Would love to try these out.
This makes me so excited. I especially need something for styling when natural hair is worn straight. Definitely entered into the giveaway. Awesome partnership!
Your hair is so gorgeous! The products worked on it like a gem!
I am always looking for products to use on my daughter’s natural hair. I will be looking into this one. Thanks for the info!
I love your hair! I always have. It looked like these products worked great for you!
My hair is having some challenges right now. The curls are looking for new juices and berries to be better defined.
I love trying new products for healthier hair. All the new styles you can try make me almost want to undo my locs…almost 🙂
Will def check this out. My daughter’s hair is natural as well.
I am looking for some natural hair products so the timing is perfect. I love the way your hair looks!
Hey girl! I define my curls using a flax seed based gel. I rake it through my moisturized hair very thoroughly. It defines my curls and leaves them light, bouncy, and crunch free (lol)
I am still learning about coils. I’ve yet to have a successful wash n go. I am going to try the shingling method with raking it through with my finger instead of using a deman brush. We will see.
My natural is all about loving what God gave me!
Nice review! I usually do a twistout which helps define my curls. I generally don’t do a wash and go because of shrinkage. Looks like you had minimal shrinkage with these products so it would be worth a try!
I cleanse my hair with a clay mask since it defines my curls more. After that I add a good leave in conditioner along with a small amount a eco gel and that is enough for me to be able to define my curls when doing a wash n go!
I define my natural by appreciating it for what it is – embracing myself! I take care of my natural and support other naturals to do the same 🙂
Thanks for the info. I have a few hair staples, but it’s always fun to try new product lines
I just saw this brand in the beauty supply. I’m always interested in trying new products. It rare to see a nice wash and go on type 4hair.thanks for hosting this giveaway
Any idea how this product will work out with 3b hair?
Someone recommended this line but I only see very lovely results by women with type 4 hair.
