As 2022 approaches, it hit me that it’s been 20 years since I earned my Associates Degree from Tidewater Community College here in Virginia. Transferring from a big university due to the high cost of tuition was a great decision because it was more affordable. But I still had to get student loans – which I am still paying so many years later. Virginia’s G3 Tuition Assistance would’ve been helpful to assist then!
If you’re in a similar situation and plan to attend one of Virginia’s Community Colleges, G3 tuition assistance is right for you if you’re a Virginia resident eligible for state aid. I encourage my fellow Virginians to consider community college out of high school as a great way to get a taste for college, acquire an associate’s degree and prepare for university if they choose.
Here’s some important things to know about G3 tuition assistance:
- It’s for Virginia residents who have a family income that’s generally less than $100,000
- It’s available at all 23 of Virginia’s Community Colleges
- It covers the remaining balance of eligible student’s tuition costs after state and federal aid is factored in, bringing tuition down to $0
- In-need students may also qualify for additional money that can help pay for books, fees and outside costs like transportation and childcare
- It can be used on training and educational programs for Virginia’s most in-demand industries: Healthcare, IT, Early Childhood Education, Skilled Trades and Public Safety.
I’ve been working as an Administrative Professional in Healthcare since graduating, and I truly love what I do. I’m grateful that my education at Tidewater Community College prepared me for a variety of administrative roles in my industry without leaving me with a lot of student loan debt. Since Virginia’s Community Colleges offer rolling admissions, allowing students to start their education at any time, you can take advantage of G3 Tuition assistance right away.
