Summer weather can certainly startle your skin – making it sensitive, irritated and/or red. During the summertime, UV levels can wreak havoc on exposed skin. One in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer during their lifetime. Sunlight is also a major culprit of wrinkles, dryness, and age spots. Sun damage is most likely to occur during the summer months. Here are three Summer skin care essentials you should incorporate into your skin care routine to keep your skin happy.
1. Healthy diet. Your skin is the largest organ in your body. I uses vitamins and nutrients from food to repair and rebuild. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables are good for us, skin included. Healthful foods appear to reduce inflammation and decrease the likelihood of breakouts. Drink plenty of water as well to keep your body and skin hydrated from the inside out. Just focusing on products that we can apply on the outside is not enough.
2. Light-weight moisturizer. derma e® Soothing Oil-Free Moisturizer with Pycnogenol is amazing if you are looking for a solution to these summer skin effects. The oil-free, fragrance-free gel hydrator replenishes moisture and helps reduce signs of aging and sensitivity. When I put this on my skin, I immediately feel a cooling affect because of the gel formula. I’ve never tried a moisturizer that was a gel, and this is definitely my new go-to because it goes on super light and absorbs in a snap. The gel contains anti-aging Pycnogenol, which is a gentle yet potent antioxidant that is 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals. It is ideal for using alone on normal to oily sensitive skin types or for those experiencing rosacea. It’s also recommended for anyone who is looking for a light moisturizer.
3. Sunscreen. Sunscreen is a highly recommended defense against sunburn and skin cancer. It is now available in lotions, creams, ointments, gels, wax sticks, and sprays. Our favorite is the ExtraShade sunscreen because it is designed for rich complexions aka people of color. It not only provides sun protection, but is also infused with vitamins, botanical extracts, and essential antioxidants to restore and strengthen your skin for optimal skin health and total wellness. Take advantage of the ExtraShade free trial offer. Yup – you’re welcome. Make sure to apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before you go out. Put on enough so that it takes a full minute to rub in. If you swim, sweat, or are outdoors for a long time, reapply every two hours. These tips will ensure the best protection from whatever type of sunscreen you use.

These products what I need to keep my skin clean. …Especially Light weight oil free moisturizer. Summer months can be harsh on the skin at times causing more damage. It’s important to have good products that can shield and protect our skin. Yes, also healthy diet is a must for healthy skin.
So true! Thanks for commenting!
I didn’t know that 1 in 5 African American developed skin cancer. That number seems so high… I don’t use any harsh chemicals on my skin such as unnatural soaps or lotions or even protectants… I also make sure to get 30 mins of sun a day year round… I agree the number one thing is diet… Diet is really really everything… I am 85% raw vegan and striving gluten free… It has made all the difference with my skin…
It’s 1 in 5 Americans, not African Americans specifically. Diet is so key, and I wanted to include that first because that’s such a huge piece that people tend to skip over. Thanks for commenting!
As someone whose skin suffers with changes in the weather, thank you so much for this informative article! Having recently moved to the United Arab Emirates, I definitely have to be protected every time I step out into the sun.
I live in the Middle East and just came home to USA for the summer. I could use these products year round.
I’m good with keeping my skin clean. I’m pretty good at keeping it moisturized. Protecting it from the sun is where I fall short. I need a moisturizer with a good SPF all in one. That is probably the best route for me to take.
I’m sooooo serious about keeping my skin safe in the summer. I love Coola’s sunscreen facial moisturizer and aveeno sunscreen for my body. Never heard of this brand, but it looks good. I will look out for it
Great tips! I will have to pick up some of these products.
I agree eating well and using a moisturizer and sunscreen is just what summer skin thrives off of. This year, I’ve been terrible with my eating but I’m trying to do better in the fall.
