It’s not everyday that you get a behind the scenes peek at the makings of a Lifetime movie. Well, today is your day! We were able to catch up with the key hairstylist for the upcoming movie feature Seasons of Love, Monae Everett. Monae Everett is a NY hair and makeup artist with over 14 years of experience. Her recent work has graced runways at New York Fashion Week for international designers, top beauty magazines and she recently worked on Project Runway. Taraji P. Henson stars and executive produces, while Gladys Knight, LeToya Luckett, Shannon Kane, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith also star.
Movie synopsis: Kyla (LeToya Luckett, “Single Ladies”) and Amir’s (Cleo Anthony, “Divergent”) new romance is thrown for a loop when Amir’s father (Richard Portnow) suddenly passes away and Kyla’s ex, Miles (Rob Riley, “Hit the Floor”), comes back into the picture. The two struggle to determine what truly matters to them in this story of life, love and family.
Monae tells us about the inspiration behind each character’s hair looks, and what products she used to create each look. See Monae pictured with some of the actresses from the movie as she works on their looks.
Taraji P Henson: Taraji’s light hearted character, Jackie, needed a fun hairstyle to match. We styled her hair with Bumble and Bumble products to keep each style voluminous and touchable. The Defrizz kept her hair both smooth and bouncy.
Latoya Luckett: Latoya plays a “no nonsense” career woman. To keep each strand in place I used a pomade to smooth her fly ways and the Redken Shine Flash spray to keep her mane shiny.
Gladys Knight: This family matriarch kept her short styles chic. Using a ¾ inch flat iron I beveled her hair into place. Her hair was coiffed with Redken Shine Flash spray and detailed with the Sebastian Reshaper Spray.
Shannon Kane: We kept Imani’s enviable curls intact by using Deva Chan products. We started each day by cleansing with the No Poo, conditioning with the Heaven in Hair, and setting the curls with the Arc Angel gel. We added a braid in most scenes to highlight Imani’s romantic personality.
Ana Isabelle: Ana’s hair was a huge aspect of Randi’s vivacious character. We used the Bumble and Bumble Defrizz and Schwarzkopf Grip mousse during her blow dry. Weather her hair was flat ironed pin straight or curled into big sexy waves, these added shape, hold, and volume to each style.
