What’s your name? Racheal also known as BkAphrodite
How long have you been natural? I have been natural for a year an March 2014 will make 2 years for me.
What made you decide to go natural? I had seen many naturals flaunting their amazing curls and was in awe, then I decided to try it out for myself after the health of my hair had declined with a relaxer.
Big Chop, shot term transition or long term transition? Why? I think I was more of a mid-term transitioner LOl. I transitioned for 11 months then went for a cut which ended up as much more of a Big Chop.
What is your hair care routine/regimen? I wash my hair every week, which includes a shampoo, condition, leave in and an oil to seal in the moisture. Some weeks I may give my hair some extra TLC with a deep treatment/steam treatment.
What are your top 5 ‘must-have’ hair care products/items? Why? Only top 5!! LOL For now it’s Shea Moisture products because they are inexpensive and are made of natural ingredients.Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia Leave-in an Heavenly Jojoba Oil because they are all natural and light on my hair. Some Vatika Oil because it is pretty awesome on my hair and either my Q-Redew handheld steamer or the Huetiful Hair steamer to add moisture to my hair or just wake up those defiant curls.
What are your favorite styles to wear? Most of the time I rock a wash and go simply because I am really lazy at styling my hair but from time to time I rock a braided or twisted up do or a twist out.
What is one thing you wish you knew about your hair or about your journey before going natural? That I would have so many different textures to cater to in just one head of hair and that it wasn’t as easy as a lot of naturals say it is. LOL
What is the most important tip you’ve learned throughout your natural hair journey that you think every natural should know? Be patient and let your hair do the talking or showing rather. Often times there are styles that may not work for your hair but your hair is still beautiful. That “messed up” style probably still looks dope as heck.
What are thoughts on the natural hair community/movement? I love it and hope to inspire many more woman and young girls to embrace it.
