How to Get Started on Periscope

Live streaming capability in the palm of your hand. Maybe 10 years ago that concept would’ve sounded impossible. But now, it’s here with a fairly new app that has taken the game over. Periscope. The app launched on March 26 for Apple users, then May 26 for Android users, and now at 3 millions video views it is easily on pace to be the #1 live streaming app. 

What exactly is Periscope, and what makes it different from SnapChat or YouTube? Periscope is a live streaming app that allows you to share and watch live broadcasts on your phone or tablet. Instead of a video clip posted after the fact, Periscope allows views to go along with broadcasters in real time with live video. Instant gratification, people. That’s the difference.

Here’s how to get started on Periscope in 7 easy steps:

1. Download the free Periscope app owned by Twitter from the App Store for Apple users or Google Play for Android users.
2. Create an account using your existing Twitter account or your mobile phone number.
3. Follow users by searching users you already follow on Twitter, or by using the search feature.
4. Check your data plan before viewing scopes because they can eat up a substantial amount of data quickly; watch when connected to wifi whenever possible.
5. Watch your first scope and engage by leaving comments or tapping the screen to send hearts to the broadcaster.
6. Chat with other viewers during the broadcast, and if they sound interesting, follow them.
7. Start your first broadcast and share your world with the world.
