I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s gotten wand curls or a similar style on their natural hair, and wondered how to make it last. Wondering what’s the best way to set the hair at night for a great look in the morning? I hope this will help you see a couple of ways of how to preserve wand curls.
I’ve been long overdue for a trim and treatment, which I normally due when the seasons change. I totally skipped my Summer session with my stylist Hadney Alexander, so I made sure to see her for my Fall session. We were going to attempt wand curls on my hair last year, but we didn’t have time, so I wanted try it again.
After applying heat protectant and leave-in conditioner, then blow drying my hair, Hadney used a wand curler to style my hair. Using a low-medium heat to create curls without losing texture, my hair had tons of body and movement. I loved how it turned out but I wanted to know how to preserve wand curls to extend the style.
Now the next day. In this video, you’ll see I used 2 different techniques to preserve the wand curls overnight. I did a pineapple technique as well as using flexi rods. I also used Coconut Caramel Hair Serum by EBJ to help add sheen and prevent extra frizz while handling the hair that morning.
Have you ever had your hair styled in wand curls? How did you preserve it? I’d love to hear about it!
I have been wanting to try a rod set for a long time, but I never did because I was worried it wouldn’t last. Your tips are awesome! Makes me more confident to try it now.
I was able to make it last for a week – so I hope these tips will help you.
You hair is so beautiful!! It was so awesome meeting you at Blogalicious!
Thanks – it was awesome meeting you too!
When I wand curl my hair, they end up flat in the morning because I don’t wrap them up. I’ll have to try these tips next time.
Definitely try it out.
I want to try wands but every time I do any sort of roller my hair somehow turns in some odd and random way and I look crazy! LOL. Maybe the key is to wrap them up!
It seemed to work for me. I understand though when a style just never seems to work.
Those curls are super pretty Jonna. I’ve never tried Wand Curls but they are on my list of “to try” styles.
They were on my list too to try. Now they’ll be on my rotation list.
Ok, your hair is so thick and pretty! Love the way your wand curls turned out. I’ve always thought my hair would be too thick for them, but this gave me hope lol. Good job!!!!!
I guess the key is smaller sections, even thought that will take more time.
Great tips! Again, your hair is so pretty and thick. You inspire me to try new things.
This was my first time trying this style also.
I love this, my goal is to grow my hair out this winter. Fingers and toes crossed twice over. I need hair so I can try out these cute styles and techniques.
I’ll believe it when I see it! You love your short do.
I’ve never heard of the term wand curls, so thanks for schooling a sistah. I love how they turned out and your hair looks so healthy!
I loved it too – I wish they would last longer!
I’m itching to do wand curls! The only curly type of style I can get right are curl formers. These are great tips though.
These tips would work for maintaining curl formers as well. I’m itching to do curlformers 🙂
