Football season is in full gear, and while I don’t have a favorite team, I enjoy watching football. My dad is a long time Colts fan, and Mr. Blakes is a Cowboys fan, so watching football has always been a part of my life. Growing up, the game day traditions I remember are just my dad and I going to either of my grandparent’s house for Sunday football. Listening to my dad and my grandfathers talk about the game helped me learn enough to follow along and understand what was going on.
Recently, we had an opportunity to interview Tennessee Titan Jason McCourty and his mom Phyllis about their game day traditions as the NFL celebrates 50 years. Jason is an American football cornerback for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 6th round, 203 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Rutgers.
The McCourty family ties are strong, and their story is unique. Devin and Jason McCourty were born 27 minutes apart in 1987. Their father died when they were three years old. As youngsters, they promised each other they’d get scholarships to college to ease their mother’s financial burden, and they did – playing football together at Rutgers University. Devin and Jason’s perseverance to succeed is one of the most important lessons their mom instilled in them. She told them while there’s always going to be adversity, it’s how you deal with it that makes the difference. Now, Jason has a successful career playing for the Tennessee Titans while his brother Devin plays for the New England Patriots.
The twins and their mom say football is not only their way of life, it’s part of their family too. Being on different NFL teams makes it especially important for Jason and Devin to stay in touch. Check out the interview below provided by P&G at Walmart to learn about some of the McCourty family game day traditions!
P&G at Walmart is encouraging families to share their game time traditions. Do you have any? We’d love to hear about them. #GameDayTraditions
Like the interview with Tennessee Titan Jason McCourty and his mom also I am not an avid football fan enjoyed reading and the closeness with to his family thanks for sharing.
Great interview. I don’t know why but it’s strange to me that the NFL has only been around for 50 years. I guess it’s just one of those things we assume has been around forever LOL.

Great video! I was a little shocked when I heard the NFL has only been around for 50 years, seems like so much longer then that. Awesome post, game day traditions are always fun!
Great interview! I love how close the family is, and the split jersey is so cute! I can tell Mrs. McCourty handles having two sons on opposing NFL teams very well.
My mother is a die hard sports fan and football is her absolute favorite. I have memories of going to NFL games in New York as a kid. It was no surprise that I would also grow up and like football.
I love football and I am a huge sports fan. I love basketball but I think football is the best. I didn’t realize the NFL was only 50, wow!
I am a sports fanatic and loved this interview! Happy 50th NFL!!
Great interview. I use not be a big fan of football but have devloped an affinity for it.
Great Interview. Family traditions are important. I didn’t know it was the NFL
50th anniversary.
