2016 is just a few days away, and hopefully you are thinking about setting goals for the new year. One of the most popular new year’s resolutions is to set financial goals like to get out of debt or save more money. For me, I have my eyes set on paying off two debts in 2016, a $2000 personal loan and a $4000 credit card balance. Many of us want to set financial goals, but need some help to make it happen. Women, especially, need a different skill set and understanding when it comes to setting their financial goals.
Patrice Washington, aka the Money Maven, has EXACTLY what you need to reach your financial goals this year, and beyond. She is re-releasing her wildly popular book in her Real Money Answers series, Real Money Answers for Every Woman: How to Win the Money Game With or Without a Man. Patrice has been teaching money mastery since 2003, and has been featured in Forbes, The Huffington Post, CNN Money, Essence, and Black Enterprise. Each week, 8 million listeners tune in to hear her “Real Money Answers” segment on the Steve Harvey Morning Radio Show.
The money conversation with Mr. Blakes was always an awkward one, and I couldn’t understand why. Until I stumbled across a video from Patrice where she talked about how speaking to your partner in their language was key, especially when it came to finances. For someone that likes to see things on paper, make sure to write things out (or text things out in our case) so that they can see the finances in a way that is comfortable for them. I know that Mr. Blakes is that person, so when I would call him and ramble off numbers, it was frustrating to him. Making that one change on my end made the money conversations easier and less stressful for the both of us. I can tell you, Patrice knows her stuff!

Yep! Money conversations are always uncomfortable, but they need to be done. You can avoid so many problems in the future with some well laid foundation. Hurray for financial freedom. It is totally worth it!!!
Saving is a continued goal for me this year as well. I too would like to lessen my consumer debt as I work toward the financial freedom I desire. Last year I was successful using a variation of the 52 Week Savings plan. I used the savings to pay off one of my credit cards as a jump start to the new year.
I’ve been thinking a lot more about my finances lately. I agree, having things on paper really makes a difference.
We will be paying off a major debt this year so I’m thrilled. Then, it’s on to the next!
I am working towards financial freedom and thankfully I don’t have a lot of debt. One of my goals this year is to save more money. Patrice book sounds awesome, I’ll have to check it out.

I met Patrice a few times as we both wrote for the same magazine and she was the financial editor. Very proud of her and happy she is able to help other to move towards more financial success instead of stress.
I am formulating my financial goals now but I have a couple already in my sights. So important on that early in the year. And I am going to look into Ms. Patrice more!
Great information. I’m definitely looking to eliminate my debt and I want to teach my son how to not make the mistakes I made. I will certainly look into more of Ms. Patrice’s tips.
