Faux locs are a protective style that mimics the look of traditional locs with the time and commitment of locing your real hair. Some people opt for faux locs just to try a different look, while others are considering locing their hair and want to get a feel for how they will look. Most are installed either individually on single braids or twists, where yarn, synthetic or human hair is braided or twisted into into your hair, and then wrapped with the faux hair. Another option is to use a crochet method to install pre-made faux locs.
Are you looking to try to install faux locs? Here are 7 easy to follow faux locs tutorials we found online!
Crochet Goddess Locs. In this video, pre-made ‘Goddess’ style locs are crocheted onto cornrowed hair. Goddess locs have more sheen than most braid hair.
Crochet Locs with No Cornrows. Instead of crocheting the locs onto cornrowed hair, the crochet locs are added individually. This allows for more styling flexibility.
Crochet Micro Locs. In this video, pre-made mini locs are crocheted onto cornrowed hair. If you are looking for something along the lines of Sisterlocs, this is a similar look.
Individual Faux Locs on Braids. In this tutorial, braiding hair is braided into the natural hair in individual box braids. Then the braid hair is wrapped around the braids to create the locs.
Flexible and Lightweight Faux Locs. The difference with this tutorial, is that no additional hair is added to the length of the twists before wrapping. Instead, hair is braided in only to the ends, so they are more lightweight and flexible.
No Twist Faux Locs. This method combines the crochet method with the wrapping method. Instead of crocheting pre-made locs, you crochet braiding hair and then wrap the hair around itself to create the locs. This may be less expensive than using pre-made faux locs.
Yarn Faux Locs. Using yarn is another option for creating faux locs instead of using braiding hair. This also gives you more flexibility for colors.
BONUS: Crochet Faux Locs on Tapered TWA. We couldn’t leave out the ladies with short hair, so this tutorial is demonstrated on someone with a tapered hair cut.
