Something as simple as lighting a candle can change the mood and feel of your home. Fragrances like pumpkin spice, pine trees, and apple pie make me think of Fall, family and food. I love how the American Home™ collection of candles by Yankee Candle® my home ready for Fall. But what about when the candle jar is empty? In this post, I’ll show you how to up-cycle the empty candle jar to create a super cute DIY candle jar makeup brush holder. I promise it is one of the easiest things you’ll do this Fall.
I can pick up all the items I need for this DIY project, including my favorite American Home™ by Yankee Candle®, right at Walmart. Just look for the Home Decor section, and find the candles. These candles are reasonably priced, with 4oz tumbler candles for $4.93, 12oz tumbler or jar candles for $10.93, or the 19oz for $14.93. Depending on how many items you want to store, you could use either a 4oz, 12oz or 19oz candle jar. For this tutorial, we’ll be using the 12oz candle jar.
Of course, to do this DIY project, you’ll have to burn the candle until it’s empty. So keep safety first and follow the instructions on burning the candle properly, especially if you have small children. Once you have an empty candle jar, fill the jar 3/4 to the top with your favorite decorative beads, stones, or even craft sand. Stick your makeup brushes and tools in, brush side up, and you’re done. That’s it. Seriously. It just doesn’t get much easier that that. If you want to get extra, you can add embellishments to the outside of the candle jar. But I think that the decorative beads, stones or sand that you add inside are just fancy enough. The cool part is that if you leave just a little of the wax behind, the fragrance is still strong.
I’ve shared my easy DIY candle jar up-cycle idea using the new American Home™ by Yankee Candle® products at Walmart. This gives you a good reason to light these candles at every chance you get as you transition your home to Fall. Now tell me how you’d use your empty candle jar – or if you’d try this tutorial out. I’d love to hear about it!
I absolutely love this idea! We always toss the old candle jars because I can never figure out how to remove the last of the wax, but this is a great way to re-purpose them!
You can put some water in a sauce pan, and warm it up and let the wax melt. Then wipe it out with a paper towel.
Ok, this is so simple, yet absolutely genius! I have a bunch of old candle jars that I can try this with. Awesome!
You can store so much stuff in them, and its so simple!
Such a great idea. Now you’ve given me inspiration to burn more candles!
Right! And these smell so good.
I always liked the idea of repurposing the candle jars that I get from Bath and Body Works. Putting cotton balls, brushes, and other stuff.
Yes, I definitely plan to store more things in these as I burn them out.
What a great idea! I love DIY projects using repurposed materials, thanks for the inspiration!
Me too!
Great way to may reuse of the candle jar!
Thanks!
This is cute and simple, it would give a boring make up area some extra style.
And you can decorate the outside of the jar too, which I know you could do like you do your custom kicks.
Very chic and simple to do. This is a great look. I may have to try this!
Definitely!
I need to do this! Lord knows I can always use the extra storage. It just takes me forever to finish out a candle now that the little guys are running around.
I’m always burning candles but it still takes a while. But the jars are nicer than they used to be. Worth keeping!
OOOOOOOOhhhhhh, i love repurposing candle jars! I feel like my house is a fire hazard sometimes, I have so many. But oddly enough, I never considered something as practical as a brush holder!
What do you use your empty candle jars for? I’d love to hear!
What a great way to recycle. I like getting a second use out of used items.
