When I had a bout with gout (ooo that rhymes hehehe) earlier this year, I was told to increase my intake of cherries. You didn’t have to tell me twice, because I absolutely love cherries. But there are so many health benefits they provide. Cherries contain powerful antioxidants like anthocyanins and cyanidin, and they reduce reduce Inflammation, helping with arthritis pain relief, your risk of gout, and post-exercise muscle pain. The melatonin in cherries helps support healthy sleep and eating more cherries can reduce belly fat. I’m here for that, so I’m always looking for ways to incorporate cherries into my diet, especially when they’re out of season. Here’s an easy cherry berry green smoothie that I love to make for breakfast that uses frozen cherries. Pair it with some fruit and greek yogurt for a on-the-go but complete breakfast.
What’s In It: Cherry blend frozen fruit, spinach, hemp protein powder, frozen banana, and almond milk.
This is definitely a regular in the green smoothie rotation. Feel free to make adjustments to suite your taste or nutritional needs. Maybe add more bananas for sweetness, or chia seeds for an antioxidant boost. What is your favorite ‘add-in’ for your green smoothies? I’d love to hear about it!
