Blogger Week is a multicultural festival of bloggers, journalists and social media mavens hosted by Black Bloggers Connect. This is year three of the conference, and this year’s Blogger Week™ featured four days of festivities across the country including: workshops, panels, and networking events, and two days of the official Blogger Week Conference and Digital Media in Social Justice Symposium held in Washington, DC.
EDEN BodyWorks was a sponsor for the conference, and since I’m an ambassador for the brand, they asked me to attend and represent them at the conference. No twisting of my arm needed! I attended the Blogger Week Conference on Saturday, August 20 at Trinity University.
Surprise, surprise, fellow Hampton Roads blogger Victoria @royalbeautyv was the conference host. She did an amazing job as host, and looked amazing doing it. The conference opened with a panel discussion about the state of the digital space and how to make the most of your blog as a platform. There were several sessions available throughout the day to choose, from how to create an app for your blog to capitalizing your Instagram to whether or not you need a publicist. Having attended a few other blogging conferences, I’d say that this conference is a great place to start for newer bloggers of color or bloggers who like a more intimate, family reunion feel to a conference.
The Hilton Garden Inn was on the list of recommended lodging options. During the lunch break, I headed over to check-in and get acquainted with the area. The front desk staff was kind and helpful, even though there was an issue with the reservation. The issue was quickly resolved (it was on our end), and we were issued our room keys.
After checking in and heading to my room, I was happy to find a clean, spacious room with a beautiful sky view. Amenities included free wifi, a microwave, and refrigerator. Besides the seal on the inside of the refrigerator door being loose, there were no issues at all with the room – everything was in great working order. Within walking distance, there was a Harris Teeter grocery store and Starbucks, along with a couple other restaurants.
I really enjoyed attending the Blogger Week conference again this year. And my comfortable stay at the Hilton was just what I need to rest up, and hit the road back home the next morning.
