Even though I consider myself a full-time blogger, I still maintain and enjoy my full-time employment. During the day, Monday thru Friday, I’m the administrative secretary to the vice president of a local hospital. Keeping up with someone else’s work life is extremely challenging. Over the last 14 years of working with her, I’ve developed 5 secrets to make your workday mornings easier. People always ask how I’ve managed to keep up with her all this time without losing my mind. These 5 simple tasks are what make my workday mornings a breeze, for the most part.
5 Secrets to Make Your Workday Mornings Easier
1. Organizing my to-do list the day before. At the end of every day, I review all of the tasks I didn’t complete, and add them to the next day’s to-do list. That way, as soon as I arrive in the morning, I know what my priorities are.
2. Filing things away asap. Staying organized really makes work life easier. Nothing is worse than someone asking for a file that you know you just had, but hadn’t filed away yet. Going through that pile is just annoying, especially when you are pressed for time. While it seems tedious at the time, taking a moment to file things away soon than later is helpful.
3. Clearing off my desk the day before. Clearing off my desk and putting everything in its place before I head home in the evening makes for a clean workspace when I arrive in the morning. If for any reason I need to rush, I don’t have to take time to making room to work. And the peaceful feeling you get when you come to work in a clear, decluttered space just makes it easier to focus and ready your mind to work.
4. Stock my must-have snacks and drinks at work. While I may bring my lunch to work each day, I like to grab all my favorite snacks and such to work at the beginning of the week. That way I don’t have to worry about forgetting to bring them each day. I usually bring any fresh fruit and snacks I purchased while food shopping over the weekend. Even though we have coffee all day in our office, I have to bring my own creamer.
I picked up the International Delight Simply Pure coffee creamer from Walmart in Hazelnut and Vanilla to take to the office. Because sometimes you feel like a nut, and sometimes you don’t. It comes in Caramel flavor too. Simply Pure only has 5 simple ingredients, and is made with real milk, cream and sugar. It’s so delicious, so I have to make sure it’s in my stash for every day of the work week. Sometimes, I even share with my co-workers. Most times I’m sure they just use some without asking, but it’s okay. Sharing is caring.
5. Start your day with a daily spiritual practice. I’ve always had a daily habit of starting the morning off with a prayer, and reading a bible text each morning. This helps me focus on my purpose in life, and my purpose for the day. Regardless of your religious preference, starting your day with a spiritual practice helps prepare you mentally for the craziness that will come during your work day.
These 5 simple steps will help you make your workday mornings a breeze. I promise you. You can trust me because I haven’t always done them, and my days used to suck. Now that I do these things ever single time, I actually have time to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace in the morning.
Is there any secret you’d add to my list that helps you start your workday mornings off right?
