Micellar water seems to be the new trend in skincare these days. If you’re like me, when I first saw it, I wasn’t really sure what micellar water was or how to use it. Once I learned about it, I tried a few to see if they were worth all the hype. Micellar water is now an official part of my summer skincare routine, especially on days when I’m wearing makeup or working out.
In this post, I’ll talk about what micellar water is exactly, how to use it, and which ones are currently in the Naturally Glam rotation.

So…What Is Micellar Water Exactly?
Micellar water is basically water and one or more surfactants combined to make a cleansing water. The surfactant molecules combine into clusters called micelles, and they grab and pull oil and dirt away from your face. If you want an actual scientific explanation, you can find it over at The Lab Muffin.
How Do You Use Micellar Water
Miceller water is used in the same way as a gentle makeup remover. To use, you apply generously to a cotton ball or pad, and wipe your face. The micelles pull the nastiness off of your face and onto the cotton ball. Keep in mind that this is just one step in your cleansing routine especially if you are a makeup wearer.
Since the weather has take a turn up, and I’m wearing a mask most of the day at work, I rarely wear makeup at all. When I did, I used micellar water most often after work to remove light foundation before working out, and then after working out. Now that we are officially in the heat of summer, micellar water is something I use more often these days. Since it’s a no-rinse cleanser, it can help refresh your skin and remove impurities that heat and sweat can bring to the surface.
Three Micellar Waters I Use and Why
Simple Micellar Cleaning Water. Simple Micellar Water has no artificial perfume, dyes or harsh chemicals that can upset your skin, so you can thoroughly clean your face and remove makeup with no skin irritation. It’s a great option for people with sensitive skin that don’t wear much makeup. I notice that it does take a lot more to remove anything above a light application of foundation, which ends up leaving my skin oily and irritated from the all the wiping. If I’m not wearing makeup and just want to refresh my face after a workout, this works great.
derma-e Vitamin E Micellar Cleansing Water. This derma-e vitamin C cleansing water dissolves makeup and impurities, without rinsing. It contains vitamin C, which helps improve the appearance of your skin by promoting healthy collagen. It also contains anti-aging probiotics and antioxidant-rich rooibos which may help skin appear brighter and replenished. This one was more effective than Simple for me, at just slightly higher price point. If there’s one thing I’d complain about, it’s that the bottle itself is hard to squeeze so it takes a lot to get to product out.
Perricone MD No:Rinse Micellar Cleansing Treatment. This No:Rinse Micellar Cleansing Treatment deeply cleans pores without over-drying. It’s a 3-in-1 cleanser, toner, and makeup remover that leaves skin instantly smoother and primed for treatment and moisturizer. While it is at a considerably higher price point that the two I mentioned, the higher quality is noticeable in my opinion. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily, and gets the job done faster with less product, which means less skin irritation. It may be worth the extra coins especially if you typically use a cleanser, toner and makeup remover anyway and are looking to condense your skincare regimen.
