When we first found out we were expecting, we decided to get some genetic testing done to look for early signs of any disorders. The test would also let us know the gender of our baby. I was ecstatic and got the results asap, but Mr. Blakes was not interested in finding out. Finally he was convinced to not wait until our baby was born, and agreed to find out the gender. I searched for ideas, and decided to go with a baseball themed gender reveal party.
If you’re thinking of doing a gender reveal and you or your husband are in to sports, this budget-friendly baseball themed gender reveal party might be perfect for you. Here’s the deal on everything I used for the party – from decorations to the menu to the actual reveal prop. Thank you to DP Gordon Media who captured all the photos in this post for our gender reveal.
Decorations
To keep this party stress-free and within budget, I went with simple decorations that were easy to assemble and put up. I also decided to focus the decor in one spot – the party favor table. This area also served as the backdrop for our photos with family and friends.
I used a simple Boy or Girl banner, that came in a party kit I found on Amazon with photo props and tiny pacifiers to spread around the table. To add to the banner, I purchased these large tissue pom-poms from the Dollar Tree. They were 2 for $1! To help people pick their team, I purchased a 12″ X 18″ Old Wives Tale poster that I could circle which applied to me to see if they indicated boy or girl. I bought a simple frame from Walmart for the poster to go in for only $4.97.
Party Favors
To go with the baseball theme, I took a cue from the Ol’ Ball Game song and went with peanuts and Cracker Jacks. The small boxes of Cracker Jacks were 3 for $1 at Dollar Tree. I purchased the shelled roasted peanuts from Costco – the 6lb bag was only $5.59. I was able to make 20 bags of peanuts (about 1 cup was in each) and still had a lot of peanuts left over. The clear loot bags (25 for $1) as well as the pink and blue favor tags (pack of 10 for $1) all came from Dollar Tree.
Ballpark Menu
We had about 35 guests, and to kept with the baseball theme, we served hot dogs and hamburgers with the fixings. We purchased the hot dogs, 1/4lb burger patties, and buns for both from Costco for under $50. My mom made her famous may0-free coleslaw, and I made soft pretzel bites to keep with the ballpark menu. I picked up these mini soft pretzels from Dollar Tree, and there were about 25 in each bag for $1. To save on drinks, we served fruit-infused water which kept everyone hydrated and it was delicious – even the kids loved it.
Gender Reveal Prop
The star of the show was the gender reveal prop – the powder-filled baseball. I purchased the ball from Amazon, and it worked perfectly. The ball looked very realistic, and was hard enough that when it did fall on the ground – Mr. Blakes missed the first 2 times – it did’t break and ruin the surprise. You will need a real bat (metal or wooden) so my parents just borrowed one from their neighbor. When he did hit the ball, it really did burst and lots of blue powder came out. It was amazing!
I’m really happy with how this party turned out, and how budget-friendly it was. Everyone liked the theme, especially my husband, and we are thrilled to be having a son. If you like my See You Soon t-maternity t-shirt, I picked this up from Amazon as well. Here’s the video from the reveal!
Have you attended a gender reveal before? Did you have a gender reveal to announce your child’s gender? Share your gender reveal story in the comments – I’d love to hear about it!
I have never attended a gender reveal before but I love parties with a theme. This one was so cute and budget friendly!
My mom never had attended one either, and I had only attended one other gender reveal before mine. It was fun to plan.
How exciting! I loved this theme. My favorite party is the actual reveal. Congrats on your baby boy.
Congrats on the boy! I loved your gender reveal and your t-shirt is too cute.
Thank you!!!
Oh what fun! I love all the photos you took too.
I actually didn’t take any of these pictures! I hired a photographer so I wouldn’t have to worry about the pictures, and she did an amazing job. I can’t take any credit from her!
Congratulations! I think this is so cute! Baby showers have come a long way!
This is totally different from a baby shower. No gifts are expected like with a baby shower, so its a fun way for me to share the announcement of the gender with my husband and family and friends with no pressure to bring a gift. I liked that aspect.
First off congrats! Second I love how you put everything together. Very creative and cool. Even though he missed the ball a few times which I am sure gave a good laugh the reveal seemed super fun!
Yes those missed made it more exciting! It made me nervous and I already knew it was a boy!
