As a style and beauty blogger, it is easy to get caught up in buying the latest beauty brands and fashion looks on the market. These products don’t always take our environment into consideration, by using ingredients, fabrics, or manufacturing practices that aren’t environmentally friendly. At the same time, many brands are focusing on green living, making it so much easier to find ways to go green and still stay glam.

There are lots of ways to go green with your beauty and style. Here are 5 ways that I incorporate greener living into my beauty and style that I think are easy for everyone to do.

1. Eco-friendly cosmetics. Brands like Juice Beauty, Burt’s Bee, and SheaMoisture are just a few that use eco-friendly ingredients and manufacturing practices that aim to preserve the environment. SheaMoisture also focuses on ethics and fair wages when it comes to sourcing their ingredients. Regardless of your price point, there’s a brand that is affordable and easily accessible. Look for natural ingredients and cruelty-free testing to help you identify green beauty products.

2. Green clothing lines. Find designers that have an interest in designing with organic materials, recycling what’s already there, or using recycled materials to create something new. Many brands are using organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo which are all sustainable fibers. Old Navy is a perfect example of an affordable clothing brand that incorporates eco-friendly practices. They have a reward program from customers bring their old flip-flops into the store in exchange for discounts and coupons. The shoes were recycled and the materials then used to build several community playgrounds across the country.

3. Thrift shopping. My personal favorite, including thrift stores into your shopping rotation. This is the best way to recycle clothes – another person’s trash can be your treasure, and your trash can be someone else’s treasure when you donate items. Thrift store shopping is not just for the retro or vintage fashionista. Often times, current pieces can be found in the thrift store, even with the tags still on.

4. Accessories made from recycled materials. If you are looking for unique accessories, this is the way to go. Jewelry and accessories made from recycled materials are 99% of the time one-of-a-kind pieces, which will make you stand out from the crowd. Etsy is a great place to find handmade pieces using repurposed items, like buttons or bottle tops used to make fun earrings. My favorite recycled jewelry maker is Shida Bess of Alodeuri. Every thing she creates is made from recycled and repurposed materials. She even gets her kids in on the fun of finding pieces to turn into jewelry. These recycled denim earrings are my fav!

5. DIY fashion & beauty items. If you’re the type that likes to create your own items, then you can take something old and make it into something new. Like turning an old T-shirt into a fun crop top or tank top. Empty product jars and containers are great for holding makeup brushes and storing other beauty items. Pinterest will be your friend when it comes to ideas and tutorials on DIY fashion and beauty items, and I’ve already pinned some of my favorite ones.
