Recently I was a model for Rich & Vintage, a vintage boutique owned by my friend Toni. You all know I’m a sucker for a vintage boutique and a photo shoot! I had the pleasure of having my face beat by Terria Galvez. While Terria has been a makeup artist for just a few months, don’t get it twisted about her skills. She has been pretty busy, providing her services for this year’s Virginia Fashion Week, Virginia Full Figured Fashion Week, Show Brides of Hampton Roads and many other events. This is the look she did for me.
Turns out according to her website, her favorite eye shadow color is any shade of purple – and she did an amazing purple eye look on me. No way I could have her do my makeup without trying to snag a few tips for the Naturally Glam Fam! Since she went with such a bold and beautiful lip on me, I thought I’d ask her what tips she had for the perfect lip. Here are three tips to make sure your lips are popping:
Moisturize and exfoliate those babies. This is my tip 🙂 Listen, if your lips are dry and cracked then you can’t even use the other two tips that Terria gave. Find a good moisturizing lip balm (I like Naokeidoe Creations and SheaMoisture lip balms myself) and keep it with you at all times, especially as the weather cools down. Lips need exfoliation like all the other skin on your body, so find a good lip scrub and use it as needed. I personally exfoliate my lips weekly, but do what works for you. My favs are elf Cosmetics lip exfoliator and Cream & Coco chocolate ganache lip resurfacing polish.
Make lips last but not least. Decide what type of look you are going for, then decide on the eye makeup look, and use that to determine your lip color. For daytime, if you go with a simple neutral eye look, then go for a more colorful lip. For evening, if you go with a smoldering smokey eye, then go for a nude lip. For a dramatic look, like pictured above, choose a bold eye look, and then go for a bold lip in a contrasting color.
Don’t leave out the liner. Terria emphasized that liner “is a must” because it keeps your lip color from looking sloppy and from bleeding for a clean look. Your lip liner should be the same shade as the lip color or a couple shades darker. If you go with the slightly darker liner, BLEND BLEND BLEND.
