Out & About in the 757: The Ulimate Show for Women

Yesterday I made my way out to the Virginia Beach Convention Center for The Ultimate Show for Women.  This was a free expo event geared at the ladies of Hampton Roads.  There were all types of vendors offering everything from dating advice to jewelry to vintage shopping to salon services.  I got there just in time for the fashion show.

I know you can’t really tell but I spotted WhoisSugar from YouTube in the crowd – she’s in this picture above.  I was so excited to meet her.  She is just as awesome in person as she is on the YT.  Now as I type this post, I wish I’d asked to take a picture with her, but I didn’t want to go all “paparazzi” on her.  I hope to see her at other events or just at the thrift store maybe!

Once the fashion show was done, we did a little more looking around and shopping.

Pictured here is Eye Deux, who specializes in eyelash installs, permanent makeup, threadding, waxing, etc.  She also shared her story of how she started her own business.  Great inspiration!

This event was a lot of fun, especially since it was FREE!  I found out about a few jewelry stores I wasn’t aware of, and had a great time just shopping around with my girls.  And did I mention I met WhoisSugar?  WINNING!

Out & About – Fire & Vine

The hubster came up to my job the other day and wanted to take me out to lunch.  I thought of the perfect place that we could get something delicious for lunch at a reasonable price, so we headed on over to Fire & Vine.

Fire & Vine is noted for cooking all or most of their dishes over an open flame, the waiter explained.  During lunch, they have the chef’s table (pictured above) that features all types of cold salads, roasted veggies, fresh fruit and salad fixings for a some-what traditional salad.  Did I mention that it is all you can eat for $9?  Yep, that’s right.  Or you can have soup and the chef’s table for $12; a beef or chicken skewer and the chef’s table is $13.

So if you’re in the Virginia Beach area, and you are looking for something different yet inexpensive for lunch, head on over to Fire & Vine. For more information, visit them online at www.fireandvine.com/

Out & About – Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro

Groupon.com is the bomb.com!  I had heard great things about Sonona Wine Bar, but thanks to my great Groupon deal, my husband & I decided to head on over.  Sonoma is located at the Virginia Beach Town Center, right below Ruth Chris’. Some of my bandmates were playing at the fountain so the hubster and I enjoyed dinner and headed outside to enjoy the music.

First off, the place has very chic decor. Even the bathroom was gorgeous, and to me, a nice bathroom tells me alot about what kind of experience I will have at a restaurant. These pictures are kinda dark (sorry) but hopefully they give an idea of how lovely Sonoma is.  I love how the menu covers are made from cork – it is a wine bar after all!!!

Our server was very helpful when it was time to make our wine selection because my husband and I are novices when it comes to wine. Once we took the first sip we knew she was spot on with her suggestions. The food was delicious as well.  Here are some pictures to get your mouth watering :-)

The entree prices are in the $20 range, but you do get a nice-sided dish for that price. But if you still want to try this spot and you don’t want to spend that much, stop by during happy hour.  Everyday except Saturday from 3pm-6pm, you can get half off appetizers as well as $5 wine & well drinks.

Hair on Swole: Twist-Out of Blow-dried Hair

This was a hair first for me - I’ve never blow-dried my hair to straighten it (semi-straighten really).  But I really wanted to do a twist-out on dry hair to retain some length.  The comb attachment for the blow dryer is a bit too scary for me, so I used the tension method.  The tension method for blow-drying just involves pulling the section of hair until the curls are stretched, and blow drying to straighten the hair.  I used Jane Carter’s Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner as this doubles as a detangler and heat protectant.  I kept the blow dryer on the “low”, heat setting that is :o )  Once each section was dry, I added some Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia and twisted.  When I took the twist loose, I used Karen’s Body Beautiful Butter Love.  I like to coat my hands with a hair butter or oil when taking out twists/braids sort of as a lubricant I guess, and a great way to add some sheen and reduce frizzies.  My hair was unbelievably soft and smelt like paradise!  But the humidity outside took my hair to a whole ‘nother level.  I loved the results and will be doing this ALOT more.  Here are some pics; just click to enlarge.

Out & About – Dejablu Restaurant & Lounge

Great music.  Great food.  Great atmosphere.  Great location.

You can find all of these things at Dejablu Restaurant & Lounge at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.  Located on the 1900 block of Atlantic Ave, this is the place to be for live music from your favorite local bands.

There is a cover, usually $5, and the band starts around 9pm.  I suggest making a reservation a week or so before the day you want to go, or you may not be able to find a seat, especially during the summer months since it is tourist season at the Oceanfront.  But there is a bar and an outdoor seating area that is first come, first serve.

I surprised my husband by making a reservation for our family and friends at Dejablu, and everyone enjoyed themselves.  And since this blog is about living nappturally, here are a few of my natural/going natural friends and family :o )
