Out & About: ShePreneurs Rock Networking Mixer

This gallery contains 3 photos.

I had the opportunity to my girl Nita J, MUA & Editor-in-Cheif of GlamFetish Magazine, as she co-hosted a networking mixer at Agape Hair & Nails in Hampton, VA.  The mixer afforded ladies (and gentlemen) an opportunity to get to … Continue reading

My Style-My Look: Black, White & Red

Hubby & I were invited to a house party at a friend’s home on Saturday night, and the attire was cocktail so I was excited to get dressed up a bit.  To start, I knew I wanted to wear this polka dot party dress that I’ve just recently been able to fit.  I love this dress because its not super short, and its super comfy – and I love the ruffle bottom!  But wasn’t quite sure what to do next?  So I turned to YouTube since I knew lots of my favority video makers were posting NYE look ideas.  The one that inspired me was ShirleyBEniang’s look book.  Click here to see the video that inspired my look for the evening.  Here’s a photo of the look that I based my look on.

Since the top she had featured polka dots, I thought this would be a perfect look to inspire me with my polka dot dress.

I also loved the idea of wearing a white blazer – and since I had one, I had no choice!

She also wore black tights with this look, and that was also something I wanted to do.  Though it is not terribly cold, I didn’t want to wear my bare legs.

I was also inspired by her Raven Simone inspired smokey eye makeup look.  Click here for her tutorial.

So here’s the look I came up with.  I decided to wear my earrings as my statement piece instead of a necklace like she did.  And I had to carry a red clutch instead of the black for a pop of color (and because hubby was supposed to be wearing a red shirt – but he didn’t LOL).

Out & About: Blendzville Hip-Hop Awards 2011

For those who aren’t from the area, I’m sure you’ve heard of The Neptunes, Pharrell, Timbaland, & Missy Elliot – but you might not now that they all are from the 757 where I was born & raised, and currently reside.  But what about the many other hip-hop artists in the area – who shows them love & support?  Ms Blendz of course!

Hubby & I decided to head on out to the 4th Annual Blendzville Hip-Hop Awards, which was held at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA.  Ms Blendz is a staple in the 757 for all things hip-hop, and has done a great job initiating this awards show to recognize the local hip-hop artists in the area that you may not hear on the radio.

Here are some pics from the night:

One of my favorite parts of the show was the Cypher – similar to what’s done at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.  Below is a bit of the all female MC cypher.  Enjoy!

My Style-My Look: Golden Anniversary

The hubster and I were invited to a 50th wedding anniversary party last night. I wasn’t quite sure what to wear as “semi formal” attire always confuses me. What does that REALLY mean?!?!  Anyhow…I kept it simple with one of my fav black dresses and gold accessories since it was a golden anniversary.  Get it, 50 years…golden anniversary…golden accessories…LOL

This smokey eye was courtesy of e.l.f. cosmetics.  I love their Beauty Books – they are just the thing for makeup novices like myself. I got this one – the Smokey Eye edition – from Ross for $4.

Here are the shadows from this palate that I used to create this look.  The black on the left for the lid, shimmery brown on the right for the crease. cream in the middle for highlight.  The shadows aren’t really organized in any way, but it worked out that these were all in a row together.

I kept the lips neutral with this Maybelline mineral lipstick in Chestnut that I picked up at the Dollar Tree.  I added Almay Naturals lip gloss in Nude over the lipstick to give a little shine.

I felt very Kim K with this look…but Kim K on a budget.  Gotta love that!  The hair is just a dry twist-out using Karen’s Body Beautiful hair nectar and coconut oil.

This cocktail ring came from Forever21, and the earrings and bracelet came from The $1 DollarJewelry store on Facebook. image

The shoes I got from a Newport News catalog warehouse sale for $2.  Surprisingly enough, though these are really high – they are super comfy.  I kept them on all night.

And the dress is by Calvin Klein. I found this at Ross for $13 on clearance.  What I love about this dress (even though you can’t see it in these pics) is that it looks like a halter from the front, but my back is completely covered.  It also has pads in the boob area, so you don’t need to wear a bra.  It does dip a little low in the front, so I just grabbed my black Cami Secret (love these, they sell them at Walmart – 3 colors for $10) and pinned it in place to cover up the cleav.

And here is the hubster.  He dresses himself, so I can’t tell you anything about this outfit except that he paid $10 for this tie.  I only know that because he went out and bought it at 6:00pm (the party started at 7:00pm).  But he still looks handsome to me!

We had a great night with our friends.  Its not everyday that you get to celebrate a couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.  My parents still have 14 years to go…I guess I should start saving up now LOL

Out & About – American Rover Boat Cruise

Living Social…thanks.  Thanks for the 2 for 1 deal on the sunset cruise aboard the American Rover in Norfolk, VA.  Now all those years I’d lived in Norfolk, and my husband was born and raised in Norfolk, and we had no idea this even existed.  So when I saw this come across Living Social, I thought it might be interesting.  And a lil’ romantic (I usually don’t get cheesy but the hubster likes it LOL)  The normal price for the sunset cruise is $25 per person, and the cruise is 2 hours long.

Since they don’t serve dinner on the boat, just snacks and an open bar of course, we stopped over in Waterside for the 2 slices of pizza and 1 drink for $5 special.  You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks on board, so it worked out perfect.

Here are some pictures as we sailed into the sunset.  It was the perfect way to spend a Tuesday evening…
