Fashionable Fridays: So Official Boutique

I always like to support my people from my hometown, so when I found out that my high school schoolmate Tamela had started an online boutique with a few other ladies, I was all about it. So Official Boutique is an online shop with select trend fashion items. From dresses, to tops, to accessories, they feature pieces that are on trend but priced right.

Check it a few of my favorite looks available on the site right now!

How long have you been natural?
I have been natural just over two years.

What made you decide to go natural (or stay natural if you never relaxed your hair)?
It’s always funny to me to say this, but a mistake is what made me decide to go natural. I wore my hair chemical-free for over two years; however, I typically wore my hair blown out. I wanted my blow outs to last longer so after a discussion with my stylist, I opted for a keratin treatment. Unfortunately, that was not a wise decision. Instead of relaxing the curls, it completely straightened my hair and it would no longer curl. Even though I didn’t know much about wearing my hair naturally, I knew that I wanted those curls back. After watching my mother transition, I decided to give natural hair a try.

Big Chop, shot term transition or long term transition? Why?
I was a short term transitioner. More power to those who can do the long transition! I just could not handle the two textures. After transitioning for five months, I decided to go ahead and do the big chop.

What is your hair care routine/regimen?
My hair care routine is pretty simple. I use sulfate-free shampoo, like Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo, and I wash my hair every two weeks. If I need to freshen my hair between that time, I will do a co-wash with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner. After washing, I tend to style my hair while wet using a cream moisturizer like Cantu Leave In Repair Cream and let air dry. I put oil on my hands and untwist once it’s dry. At night, I don’t retwist my hair. I put on a satin bonnet at night and I am able to wear my twists without retwisting for 4-7 days.

What are your top 5 ‘must-have’ hair care products/items? Why?
My hair requires a lot of moisture so my must-have products are generally sulfate and silicone-free. These are my top five must-have products:
i. Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo
ii. Tresemme Naturals Conditioner
iii. Coconut Oil
iv. Cantu Leave In Repair Cream
v. Cantu Deep Treatment Masque

What are your favorite styles to wear?
I love second day hair with a twist out. Full, defined curls! I also love wearing my hair in a puff. It’s my go to style when my twist outs get old.

What is one thing you wish you knew about your hair or about your journey before going natural?
I wish I knew the amount of work that’s involved with natural hair. It can be time consuming, but at the end of the day, I’m so glad I made this decision.

What is the most important tip you’ve learned throughout your natural hair journey that you think every natural should know?
I think it’s important to realize your hair is unique. It’s not going to look like everyone else’s. Don’t be disappointed. Embrace what God has given you.

What are thoughts on the natural hair community/movement?
I think that so many felt the natural hair movement would die down, but I love the fact that natural hair is here to stay. With all of this knowledge and acceptance of rocking your natural curls, I can’t imagine it changing. I hope we will continue to grow and encourage others.

Where can the Naturally Glam Fam find you online? What will they find on your site/blog/vlog?
My blog is centered on beauty, fashion and natural hair. I would love for you all to check it out!

Fashionable Fridays – Spring is Here

It’s officially spring time, and while it was snowing in the 757 yesterday, it will be in the 70s next week (because the weather is bipolar here lol). The time has come to transition your wardrobe over from dark tones heavy layers, coats and sweaters that say ‘Winter’ to more lightweight pieces and Spring colors. Here are some looks that caught my eye! What fashion looks say Spring to you? Do tell!
