MegaLast Salon Nail Color by Wet-n-Wild

FTC Disclosure: I purchased these items with my own money and was not compensated by Wet-n-Wild for this review.

On my way home from work Tuesday, I needed to make a quick stop at my local Walgreens and, as always, I took a stroll thru the beauty aisle to see if there was anything new on sale. I came across the Wet-n-Wild MegaLast nail polish that were on sale for 99 cents so I decided to pick up a few colors.

This MegaLast polish claims to provide 5 days of chip-resistant wear due to the resin polymer system, which creates increased color adhesion to nails. This polish is also calcium and mineral fortified to rebalance and prevent nail discoloration. Not bad for just $1! I picked up three colors to try – Tropicalia, Private Viewing, and Club Havana.

The one color that really caught my eye was Club Havana, a bright mango color, so I decided to try it first. As I opened the bottle, the first thing I noticed was the large applicator brush. This full-coverage brush is supposed to make for one-stroke application, and for the most part it did. It took a minute for me to get just the right amount of polish on the brush, but I can say that the larger brush did speed up the painting process.

Here is how the color turned out after two coats. I honestly could have gotten an opaque look with just one, but I like to apply the first coat lightly and then build from there. I absolutely love this color for Spring and Summer – it looks amazing against my skin completion. What do you think? What’s your favorite Wet-n-Wild MegaLast nail polish? Do tell!

Beauty Product Review: Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist

FTC Disclosure: I purchased these items with my own money and was not compensated by Ipsy or Juice Beauty for this review.

For those of you who may be Ipsy Glam Bag subscribers or have come across reviews of the March 2013 Glam Bag, a lot of people were disappointed with what they received in this month’s bag. Not me, though, because my purpose in subscribing was to try products that span the beauty spectrum. And then tell you all about it – whether it be skin care, makeup, beauty tools, etc. I was excited to see a travel size bottle of Hydrating Mist from Juice Beauty in Glam Bag, as I have been peeping their products for a while. Juice Beauty’s mission is to bring high efficacy, authentically organic, and pleasurable beauty solutions to people worldwide – and that’s something to be excited about.

What They Say
Tone and hydrate with this refreshing blend of rosehip, ylang ylang, resveratrol grapeseed oil and antioxidant-rich organic juices for a fresh, radiant complexion. Juice Beauty’s Hydrating Mist is designed for all skin types and ideal for daily use to keep skin hydrated and fresh. Clinically proven to present a significant moisturizing effect, increasing hydration for up to 3 hours. Retails at $22 for 6.75 oz bottle.

What I Say
The first time I used the Hydrating Mist, I must admit I went a little overboard. I sprayed about 10 times (stop laughing). It went from refreshing to irritating very quickly as the mist absorbed into my skin. I learned my lesson, and only three times on the next go round. Much better! So if you have sensitive skin, you’ve been warned. But I can’t say that it left my skin feeling moisturized immediately. Instead my skin felt tightened as I expected since the description said that it was a toner. At the same time, it didn’t dry out my skin either, and after I applied my normal Shea butter blend, my skin felt hydrated all day. I think this would be perfect to use before applying a tinted moisturizer, and it is a great alternative to toners that are alcohol-based since they can be so harsh on the skin. I love the smell, because you can really smell the rose water which gives it a light floral scent.

Beauty Product Review: POP Beauty Smokey Lash Kapow Mascara

FTC Disclosure: I purchased these items with my own money and was not compensated by Ipsy or POP Beauty for this review.

Some days you may not have the time, energy, or desire to apply eyeshadow – all you really need to enhance your look is mascara and eyeliner. With mascara though, because its lifespan is generally short (3 months max), finding a great mascara that isn’t too pricey is key. I usually stick to drug store brands for that very reason, but I was happy to try the POP Beauty mascara that came in February’s Ipsy Glam Bag.

What They Say
This lash-POP-ing mascara makes lashes plump, long and lusciously flirty. Smudge proof formula adds volume while curling lashes up and out for a look that truly POPs your peepers. This mascara fattens each lash to give a maximum volumizing end result. It delivers an ultra black, extra glossy finish that is tear (from laughing of course!), swim (go on, just jump in!), rub (well you never know?) and sweat proof (dancing is SUCH good exercise). Fiber-free so suitable for contact lens & sensitive eyes. Ophthalmologist-tested. Fragrance-Free.

What I Say
The first thing I always look at when I try a mascara is the applicator brush. The brush was made of natural bristles which is pretty typical, but I was expecting fancy plastic bristles at this price point. However, the natural bristles did the job and made for a light and smooth application. I did find this mascara to be more volumizing than lengthening for sure. The only let down was that after being out and about, the mascara on my bottom lashes did deposit on my bottom lid which was not a good look. I would use this for daytime if I was doing top lashes only, but not for a long night when I want to do up my eye look.

Beauty Product Review: Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer

FTC Disclosure: I purchased these items with my own money and was not compensated by Ipsy or Pixi for this review.

While I’m more than happy with using good ol’ Milk of Mag to as a makeup face primer, the huge bottle does NOT travel well lol. I’d been wanting to try out some face primers that are more travel friendly, so I was really happy to receive the Pixi Flawless & Poreless primer in the February Ipsy Glam Bag.

What They Say
The Pixi Flawless & Poreless primer creates a beautiful no-shine finish for flawless, long-lasting makeup application. This shine controlling, oil-free primer smooths out fine lines and hydrates while making pores instantly disappear. It is the perfect skin primer for all complexions and all skin types.

What I Say
I found that upon application, this primer smoothed out my skin and prepped my face for applying foundation. I thought my pores were hidden okay, considering I have large pores, and my skin was hydrated. However, after more than 3-4 hours, there was a little shine thru in my T-zone. I used it while going to a night club, a formal dinner, and baby shower – and the same thing happened. Below is a picture of me after attending the baby shower and you can see the shine thru. I did like the finish but since this product retails at $29, I would like for the no-shine finish to last much longer at that price point.
