Beauty Product Review: Sation Nail Lacquer

I think the folks at Ipsy.com must have heard the cries of their subscribers about the lack of makeup and nail polish in the March glam bag. April’s bag contained both, including a nail polish by Sation in color Love At First Byte. This color is a peachy, flesh toned nude, just perfect for spring.

What They Say
Sation Nail Lacquer is a contemporary beauty company, infusing a creative direction in nail care through a blend of lifestyle aesthetics. The collection features 120 colors from its seasonal & limited collections. Formaldehyde, DBP & Toluene Free. Retails at $5.

What I Say
I really like this color. I’m a fan of flesh toned nail polish because it doesn’t show chips as easily. SinceI type all day, my polish never lasts long so that’s important to me. The peach color also looks nice against my skin. I applied two coats, and so far so good as far as chips are concerned.

Beauty Product Review: LA Fresh Makeup Remover Wipes

FTC Disclosure: I purchased the Ipsy Glam Bag subscription which included this product with my own money. I was not compensated by Ipsy or LA Fresh for this review.

If you are a lazy as I am when it comes to washing off makeup after a late night outing, you can appreciate a good makeup wipe. Often times, the ingredients in these wipes can cause skin irritation, especially for those of us with sensitive skin. I currently use Equate makeup wipes (yep, the Walmart generic brand), and they work great for my skin and the price is definitely right. Marco’s Ipsy Glam Bag featured a pack of makeup remover wipes by LA Fresh, and I was interested to see how they worked. LA Fresh Travel Lite™ personal amenities are made in sunny Southern California with clean renewable solar energy! Keep reading to learn about this product and my thoughts on how it worked for me.

What They Say
Travel-savvy women around the globe rave about La Fresh Travel Lite™ Makeup Remover Wipes. That’s because they instantly dissolve even heavy-duty makeup with a silky, lite-touch formula. Perfectly portable, La Fresh makes beauty a breeze when you’re on-the-go.

What I Say
I used these makeup wipes to remove a full face of makeup, everything from foundation to eyeshadow to mascara. Because they are a tad bit smaller than the wipes I normally use, I had to use two to remove everything. Normally I would just use one. The wipes did remove the makeup effectively, and with hardly any skin irritation. The package was definitely travel-friendly, and the closure tab was effective in revealing the packet so the sipes do not dry out. My only gripe is the pricing – you get 8 wipes in the pack for $1.99. When I compare that to the 40 full-sized wipes I get for $2.99 from Walmart, there really is no comparison.

MegaLast Salon Nail Color by Wet-n-Wild

FTC Disclosure: I purchased these items with my own money and was not compensated by Wet-n-Wild for this review.

On my way home from work Tuesday, I needed to make a quick stop at my local Walgreens and, as always, I took a stroll thru the beauty aisle to see if there was anything new on sale. I came across the Wet-n-Wild MegaLast nail polish that were on sale for 99 cents so I decided to pick up a few colors.

20130321-094606.jpg
This MegaLast polish claims to provide 5 days of chip-resistant wear due to the resin polymer system, which creates increased color adhesion to nails. This polish is also calcium and mineral fortified to rebalance and prevent nail discoloration. Not bad for just $1! I picked up three colors to try – Tropicalia, Private Viewing, and Club Havana.

20130321-094741.jpg
The one color that really caught my eye was Club Havana, a bright mango color, so I decided to try it first. As I opened the bottle, the first thing I noticed was the large applicator brush. This full-coverage brush is supposed to make for one-stroke application, and for the most part it did. It took a minute for me to get just the right amount of polish on the brush, but I can say that the larger brush did speed up the painting process.

Here is how the color turned out after two coats. I honestly could have gotten an opaque look with just one, but I like to apply the first coat lightly and then build from there. I absolutely love this color for Spring and Summer – it looks amazing against my skin completion. What do you think? What’s your favorite Wet-n-Wild MegaLast nail polish? Do tell!

Karen’s Body Beautiful Hair Care Debuts in Target Stores

Karen’s Body Beautiful, a natural and award-winning hair care collection of cleansing, conditioning and styling products, debuts March 18, 2013 in select Target stores across the U.S. Target will carry six of the brand’s salon-quality products, which offer versatile solutions for all types of hair, including curly, coily, kinky, relaxed and heat styled. The formulations are free of synthetic ingredients and ideal for women transitioning to natural hair.

“We’re elated to be working with Target and appreciate that they’re leading the way in offering creative and effective options for women with textured hair and women of color. We’re also excited that our products are now accessible to our customers around the country at Target locations,” says Karen Tappin, founder and CEO of Karen’s Body Beautiful (KBB).

I’m disappointed that KBB will not be in any Target stores that are near me (only one store in Stuarts Draft, VA – which I have never heard of). But my hope is that as the natural hair community demands it, and the product sales demand it, Target will expand the availability to other markets. For those of you who will have these products available in your local Target, here are some details about the products they will carry along with my experience if its a products that I’ve tried.

Karen’s Body Beautiful products available in Target stores include:
Sweet Ambrosia Leave-in Conditioner ($16; 8 oz.) Ultra-moisturizing leave-in conditioner transforms dry, lifeless locks into soft, shiny and luminous hair. With Jojoba, Avocado, Wheat Germ and Coconut oils, Arnica, Nettle, Horsetail and Rosemary Extracts. Hands down this is my all time favorite leave-in conditioner. My hair loves this stuff, and the pomegranate guava scent is to live for!

Luscious Locks Hair Mask ($25; 8 oz.) Deep conditioning, nutritious hair treatment repairs dry, damaged hair, restores shine and manageability, while detangling and softening. With Jojoba and Carrot Seed Oils, Aloe Butter, Arnica, Calendula, Nettle, Echinacea and Horsetail Extracts. This product is pricey, especially since I use the entire container during just one application. But it is amazing and is one of my ‘luxury’ items that I keep around if my hair is really beat down.

Hair Blossom Moisture Mist ($16, 200 ml) Natural hydrating mist softens and refreshes hair, while reducing frizz. With Argan, Castor, Sunflower and Meadowfoam Seed Oils.

Super Duper Hydrating Hair Cream ($18; 200 ml) An intensely hydrating hair cream and styling aid that also moisturizes and nourishes the scalp with Shea Butter, Aloe Vera Gel, Argan Oil and Acai Powder. Ideal for twistouts and braidouts. Another one of my all time favorites in the KBB product line. A great all natural styler for twist outs and braid outs that adds and retains moisture all at the same time.

Butter Love ($18; 6.7 oz.) An emollient hair butter that nourishes and protects hair, while providing hold and intense shine. With Shea, Mango, Cocoa, Jojoba and Aloe Butters. This was one of the first products that I tried from the KBB product line, and I did fall in love. This butter is everything a butter should be. A little goes a long way, and you can use this as a body butter as well.

Karen’s Body Beautiful Hair Care doesn’t contain sulfates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, DEA or artificial color. The products are cruelty-free and not tested on animals. Available at these select Target store locations: http://tinyurl.com/cmbksbv and online at KarensBodyBeautiful.com.
