Out & About: Hampton Roads International Natural Hair Meetup Day

2013 Hampton Roads INHMD 009On May 18, naturalistas in over 60 cities including Tokyo and the Netherlands gathered to celebrate natural hair for the International Natural Hair Meetup Day.  Founded by Adeea Rogers, The Trendy Socialite, the purpose of this event is to set aside a day to gather together the Natural Hair Community to learn and embrace our hair, and each other.  I was blessed to be able to co-host this year’s event with Michelle of Desired Beauty Supplies.

The event was held at Baxter’s Sports Lounge in downtown Norfolk, in their chic 2013 Hampton Roads INHMD 015VIP Lounge.  The event sold out a week before, so the room was packed with ladies ready to have fun, and be educated about natural hair.  Each attendee received a swag bag filled with at least one full-sized product along with tons of sample size products from event sponsors.  The event was presented by Natural Girls Rock, and other event sponsors included Lustrasilk CurlMax, EDEN BodyWorks, Karen’s Body Beautiful, Koils by Nature, SheaMoisture, Blue Magic, Isabelle’s Own, Curls, African Pride, Curls Unleashed, and the list goes on.  For our Hampton Roads event, we also had NeNe’s Secret, Design  Essentials, and PuraBody Naturals as sponsors.  Visit http://www.inhmd.com for a complete list of sponsors and links to their websites!

2013 Hampton Roads INHMD 005The event kicked off with a Q&A session with local naturals Ashley of Curly Cubaminican, Sherry of Curly Brown Girl, Deanna of Naturally Creole, Samara of Styled Chic, Shawna of Shawna Locs & Braids, and hair stylist/hair artist Hadney Alexander.  They answered questions about fashion and makeup trends, hair care and loc care.  Then Wendy (Above & Beyond Salon in Hampton), Prenik (Fruit of the Spirit Salon in Virginia Beach) and the rest of the Design Essentials team took over and did an amazing education session about what products to use to achieve the desired style you want.

International Natural Hair Meetup Day is May 18

The International Natural Hair Meetup Day is an annual one-day event. Its purpose is to allow the opportunity for women across the country to meet in their own communities while networking, sharing and meeting (virtually) other women across the country participating in meetups on the same day. Natural hair meetups are events designed to share information, techniques, inspiration and products to aid individuals in their natural hair journey.

Attendees of the natural hair meetup will be able to:

  • Meet other naturals in their area
  • Gain exposure to natural hair product lines and companies
  • Learn the process of planning and executing a natural hair meetup (event hosts)
  • Meet natural hair and beauty bloggers and Youtube vloggers
  • Network with other natural hair meetup organizers (event hosts)
  • Discover resources, techniques, products and people that can serve as inspiration and information for the natural hair care journey

At the “Glam Night Out” International Natural Hair Meetup Day event in Hampton Roads, VA, attendees will enjoy:

  • Swag Bags for all attendees, whether Gen Adm or VIP ticket purchased

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

There is not an age limit. However, there will be a bartender available so that attendees can purchase alcoholic beverages.  To purchase alcoholic beverages, you will need a valid ID.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We ask that you either bring your printed ticket or display your ticket on your smart phone or tablet for easy check-in.  However, we will have an electronic guest list using the Eventbrite Entry Manager application so if you should happen to forget yours, we should be able to find you on our guest list.

What is the refund policy?

Tickets purchased before May 4 are subject to a full refund within 72 hours of purchase.  All sales are final for tickets purchased on or after May 4.

Return of the Curls Natural Hair Competition

Return of the Curls 2013 Tour – Ticket Winners!
