Maintaining My Wash & Go Style

The weather is finally warming up, at least this week in Hampton Roads, so I did my first wash & go style in a long time. I used OBIA Natural Hair products in order to style my hair. After washing and conditioning my hair, I worked in small sections to define my curls. In each section, I sprayed the Curl Hydration Spray, then applied the Curl Moisture Cream and detangled more using a modified Denman brush. Once the section was tangle-free, I applied the Curl Enhancing Custard and smoothed through the hair, and let my curls define. I used a pony tail holder to keep my hair stretched as I went from section to section. After I was all done, I sat under a hooded dryer for about 30 minutes to dry.

At night, I’ve been putting my hair in large, somewhat loose Bantu knots to keep the hair stretched. This has worked really well, and since they are not tight, my curl definition is not totally lost. Every other night, I apply Earth’s Nectar Monoi Hair Milk, which is more like a butter or pomade, to add some moisture and sheen to my hair. So far I’ve been able to maintain this look for 5 days, and I plan to keep it going until I restyle this weekend. I find that when I keep my curls and coils stretched, this prevents tangles and knots, and reduces breakage. This is why I keep was & go styles to a minimum. Normally I do twists to stretch my hair, but having this option to stretch my hair after doing a wash & go style is awesome. You will see this style a lot!

Out & About: Fashion Forward Shop & Sip

I can’t think of two better things to combine than shopping and sipping! These two came together well at Runway Couture’s Shop & Sip event this past Saturday in Richmond, VA. The event was coordinated by the lovely and talented designer Chrissy, owner of Runway Couture – an online boutique featuring affordable and fashionable apparel and handbags. Vendors from the area showcased their fashion items, including handbags, jewelry, and vintage pieces, while attendees enjoyed light refreshments and cocktails. There were tons of giveaways throughout the event as well, and great music as the soundtrack of the event.

I attended the event along with fellow fashionistas and fashion bloggers Lawanda of Prim.Proper.Prissy, Samara of Styled Chic, Deanna of NaturallyCreole, and LaToyia of Mo Diva Productions. We laughed, talked, shopped, munched, danced, and sipped on the signature drink for the event called The Fashionista. The bartender would not share the recipe but I can say it was vodka, fruit juices, and grenadine – and it was quite tasty! We really had a great time at this event, and will continue to support Chrissy, her boutique and her events as well.

I’m looking forward to hopefully attending her upcoming fashion show on June 22! I promise to Shae allow the details with you so stay tuned, and be sure to follow Runway Couture on Instagram @shoprunwaycouture for the latest news!

Fashionable Fridays: So Official Boutique

I always like to support my people from my hometown, so when I found out that my high school schoolmate Tamela had started an online boutique with a few other ladies, I was all about it. So Official Boutique is an online shop with select trend fashion items. From dresses, to tops, to accessories, they feature pieces that are on trend but priced right.

Beauty Product Review: Sation Nail Lacquer

I think the folks at Ipsy.com must have heard the cries of their subscribers about the lack of makeup and nail polish in the March glam bag. April’s bag contained both, including a nail polish by Sation in color Love At First Byte. This color is a peachy, flesh toned nude, just perfect for spring.

What They Say
Sation Nail Lacquer is a contemporary beauty company, infusing a creative direction in nail care through a blend of lifestyle aesthetics. The collection features 120 colors from its seasonal & limited collections. Formaldehyde, DBP & Toluene Free. Retails at $5.

What I Say
I really like this color. I’m a fan of flesh toned nail polish because it doesn’t show chips as easily. SinceI type all day, my polish never lasts long so that’s important to me. The peach color also looks nice against my skin. I applied two coats, and so far so good as far as chips are concerned.

Out & About: Return of the Curls ‘Curls Gone Wild’ RVA

You’ve heard (or read) me talking about Return of the Curls for the last several weeks, and finally May 4 rolled around! Return of the Curls brings the largest natural expo and fashion show event in Richmond, VA, and this year’s theme was Curls Gone Wild. I attended along with my mom for most of the day. We shopped the vendors, got lots of samples, and listen to a few of the guest speakers.

Here are some pictures of all the fun we had. I can’t wait to attend the Greensboro event next on July 13!
