Building your brand takes time, and often that’s the hardest thing to find when you’re working full time. For some, their job is just a means to an end and the plan is to eventually leave their jobs and pursue their brands full time. For others like myself, their job is something that fulfills their purpose as much as their own brands. Either way, it can be a difficult juggle to build your brand while working full-time. Here are 5 ways that I’ve been able to build my brand while working my full-time job simultaneously.5 Ways Build Your Brand Work Full-time

Give an honest day’s work at your job. If you are on the time clock, then do your job, simply because that’s the honest thing to do. Besides that, when you perform well, most times it will keep your supervisor out of your hair and from peeking over your shoulder. It can also make it easier for you to possibly have time off when necessary, or even a more flexible work schedule.

Be discreet about discussing your brand at work. While some of your co-workers may be potential clients and customers, most workplaces frown upon promoting things that are not work related. Be discreet about who you’ll discuss what you’re doing outside of work with. Some of your co-workers may even use it against you.

Manage your time more effectively. You need to know how much time your are wasting. I suggest doing a time budget, or time log. Account for every hour of the day for a week, and then evaluate where you can dedicate time to your brand outside of work hours. Delegate tasks that do not require your attention to free up more of your time as needed.

Take advantage of training opportunities. Often times there will be opportunities for you to get additional training through your job. Be on the lookout for those training workshops and seminars where you can acquire skills that will benefit your job and your brand.

Decide if a promotion or job change is worth it. While a promotion may mean more money, it often comes with more responsibilities and time. A job change may put you in an environment or with leadership that is not a flexible your current situation. Weight out the options and how it will affect your ability to work on your personal brand.

Building your own brand while working for an employer can be tricky, whether you’re an executive or executive assistant. But don’t give up on your brand if it is fulfilling your purpose. Keep at it – you’ll be happy that you did.
