Even thought Mr. Blakes and I are apartment dwellers, he insists on wanting to paint the walls. I don’t want to do it, because I dread having to paint it back when we move in the future. As long as I don’t have to do anything, I guess I could just sit back and enjoy the new color. Are you planning to repaint a room or two in your home in 2016? Color plays a crucial role in your home’s interior. Here’s a look at the latest color trends, as well as tips on how to incorporate them into your home. In this post we are featuring a little inspiration from interior designer Whitney Jones over at Whitney J Decor.2016 color trends, living room, home decor

Blank Canvas

White is on trend this year, but it can be difficult to pull off since there are hundreds of variations of white to choose from. But simple white, or in our case an off-white or cream, allows all the other colors in your furnishings and decor to stand out. This trend is great because it makes the possibilities for everything else in your home endless, and if you’re an apartment dweller, you can still express your style and taste.living room, home decorliving room, off white wallsWe absolutely LOVE how Whitney was able to use so many different colors, textures, and finishes that don’t compete with the wall color at all. Honestly – didn’t you forget that the walls were even there?

Keep it Soft

Pastels are definitely in the forecast for 2016 interior design color trends. Soft yellows, blues, and peach. When using pastel colors, consider the natural light in the room throughout the day and avoid using the same hue as that natural light. South-facing rooms bring in bright midday light that heightens both warm and cool colors. West-facing rooms receive a warm evening light, while east-facing rooms have a bluish tint later in the day.

The Night Show

So light pollution is a thing. Light pollution, also known as photopollution or luminous pollution, is excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive artificial light. Many people are looking into darker colors as more research about the effects of light pollution comes out. Colors like deep purple or midnight blue that mimic the tones of both dusk and dawn are now on trend, especially for the bedroom. Incorporate lighter shades of your main hue for depth, bring in touches of white for contrast, and include gold to give that “golden hour” before dusk and after dawn feel. Rose gold actually is our favorite. black wallpaper bedroomblack wallpaper bedroomthe texture on the wallpaper that Whitney used in this bedroom add another dimension to the black walls that add some interest to the dark color. All of the focus goes to the bedding and the texture and color of the accent pillows and throw. I’m sure some good sleep goes down in this bedroom. Here are some gold accent pillows we love!
